The Yacht Somerset (formerly Spindle) was built in 1971 by the Trumpy Yard in Annapolis, MD as contract number 442. Built to the exacting standards of Trumpy, construction is now double Sipo planking (originally African mahogany) on steam bent white oak frames. The boat was owned by the same family that christened her until 2010. The new owners have completed a restoration which includes a completely new bottom, keel, frames and floors, rebuilt engines, new generators and systems and after much consideration, an almost entirely new interior. Though the boat had been maintained well by her owners, she had never been updated. The decision was made to change the general arrangement and stylistically update the boat. The aft cabin now features a queen sized center-line berth and mahogany paneling, the guest stateroom offers a full queen with access through a butternut paneled hallway offset by custom built fabric inserts. All of the overheads on the boat are custom built edge and center bead panels. The two aft heads are spacious and tiled both with separate stall showers. Additional convenience and comfort has been added to the boat by way of a built in washer and dryer, type 1 marine sanitation plant and anti-roll fin stabilizers. The crew is accommodated in over under bunks forward of the completely new galley. The butternut paneling has been retained in the main salon, with teak being featured in the wheel house, aft deck and galley. New furnishings have been designed custom made for the boat. Somerset will be in based in Maine in summers and Florida and the Bahamas in the winter months.
